Golf is a unique game in that so many different types of instruments are used. In golf you have at your disposal 15 different choices for every shot. Here is a list of Five clubs no golfer should be without.

The most important club in any golf bag is the putter. For a recreational golfer who shoots 100 the putter will be used 35-40 times. Most people need a putter with a mallet type head that has lines for direction. The lines help you line up the golf head for a flat, straight putt. The mallet head helps when you accidentally mishit the shot.

The club that this golfer would use the second most is a pitching wedge. The pitching wedge is used about 15 to 20 times per round. Good for those short shots near the green the pitching wedge should have a good loft and well weighted head to help the ball stick on the green.

The next most used club is the driver. For the 12-14 per round shots made with the driver it would be wise to choose one with a big head and a loft of 12 to 15 degrees. The big head allows for more solid contact and the loft helps put back spin on the ball which will hopefully nullify a slice or hook.

Sand Wedges are not only for hitting the ball out of the sand. They are great clubs near the green, in the rough, and on loose sandy type soil. Pick one with a good rounded flange so it will bounce properly and cut through the rough better.

The fifth club chosen for this article is a 4 iron. The 4 iron is good for intermediate shots to the green. Find one with good perimeter weighting to help correct any mishits.
